Friends of the Library-Waikoloa Region (FL-WR) a non-profit organization was formed in 2010 with the primary goal of bringing a Hawaii state library to the Waikoloa Region. We are excited to watch the construction progress by Meridian Pacific, LLC on the Waikoloa Plaza property where our State Library will soon be situated. We will then be able to begin expending money to help make our newly built State Library the kind of comfortable place we’d all like to visit, gather, learn and have fun.
Our annual Walk/Run event supports literacy and lifelong learning programs like Baby’s First Book with distribution through North Hawaii Community Hospital, e-reader donations to regional schools, English classes for second language learner moms and preschoolers, trade scholarships to community college students and sponsorship of the former Newbery Quiz Bowl, an island wide academic reading competition each spring.
Our bookmobile, filled with donated books, is in operation 9:00am to 5:00pm seven days a week to make learning resources available locally for people of all reading levels and interests.
